MAP OF SHADOWS

—    dances of sickness and health

"MAP OF SHADOWS – dances of sickness and health" is an intergenerational performance project shaped from an inquiry to well being and liminal space. Based on a layered process of collaboration in multiple cities and immersive residencies researching issues of place (preceding and amidst the COVID-19 pandemic), the work develops a series of dances engaged with the thresholds of health, stability, and presence.

Key ingredients stem from research into global to local relationships of impact, precarity, and the often unseen ways in which displacement is intimately interwoven with disembodiment.

Somatic practices, such as Noguchi Taisou (developed by Michizo Noguchi) and Movement Ritual (developed by Anna Halprin), serve as conceptual and therapeutic methodology for delving into this work and notions of “dances of sickness and health”.

Throughout the process, site-specific performances and tableau photographs are being created in a series of outdoor urban spaces in tandem with workshops and interdisciplinary ensemble performances for theater.
